Good afternoon Possum fans,
Just wanted to drop in here and confirm that we will indeed be appearing tonight at the Old Winston Social Club in our fair city, Winston-Salem. The show starts at 9:00 p.m., and we’ll be playing two long sets of songs from throughout the Possum canon. As is typical with the Social Club, there is no cover charge. You must, however, be at least 21 years of age to enter the bar.
And, because we fancy ourselves as being at least slightly spontaneous, we’ve decided to add a short acoustic set at 7:30 p.m. We’re just going to pick a few tunes out by the street. Head out early and join us!
While we’ve got your attention, we should mention that reservations for the 2nd annual Carolina Ramble & Reunion (Saturday, September 26) will go on sale on Monday, June 1 via the Ramble website. If you would like to be added to the Ramble mailing list, drop us a line at carolinaramble(at)gmail(dot)com.
That’s all we’ve got for you right now. Stay tuned for the latest, greatest on all things Possum and thanks for your continued support!
Latest News & Ramblings
Good afternoon Possum fans,
We don’t know if there’s five of you or 500 of you that check in here at PossumJenkinsBand.com, but we’d like to apologize for failing to update the site since last fall. Ever switch computers and then get locked out of stuff that you haven’t actually known the login info for in years? Anyway, we’re back online here at Possum Central and will do our best to keep things updated.
After successfully hosting the inaugural Carolina Ramble & Reunion last fall, Possum has been popping up in many of our usual haunts. We recently had the distinct pleasure of opening up for our friends the Wrinkle Neck Mules at Southland Ballroom, and also participated in the St. Wish Benefit at Ziggy’s alongside many of W-S’s finest musicians. We also road tripped to Johnson City for a show at the Willow Tree–a fantastic new venue run by our friend Teri Dosher.
In the next few months, we’re back in both Boone (5/2 @ Boone Saloon) and Winston-Salem (5/9 @ Old Winston Social Club). And while the fall seems like a long ways off, we’re already making plans for the 2nd annual Ramble, taking place on Saturday, September 26, so mark your calendars!!
As always, thanks for your continued support as we celebrate our 11th year together. We’ll see y’all soon.
Dear friends, fans and family,
On a snowy night in February 2004, four guys stepped onto the modest corner stage at Murphy’s Irish Pub in Boone, North Carolina to play their first ever show together in what appeared to likely be a short-lived collaboration. One harmonica player, two vans, four albums, five states, ten years and more than 300 shows later, Possum Jenkins is still making music together every chance we get.
Sometimes, it’s even good.
Many of y’all who came out to our earliest shows have continued to support our musical endeavors at every turn, buying our records and attending our shows in smoky dive bars and at outdoor festivals, or perhaps in a funky old movie theater or somebody’s living room. Others of you have climbed aboard the Possum train more recently, but are a fiercely loyal and supportive bunch. To show our appreciation to ALL of y’all—the most dedicated believers in the Possum gospel—we’ve decided to throw a little party. You are cordially invited to attend.
On Saturday, October 4, 2014, Possum Jenkins will host the inaugural Carolina Ramble & Reunion just outside Boone in Bethel, NC. The family-friendly event will feature free camping (tent/car camping only), yard games, kids activities, food, a bon fire and lots of LIVE MUSIC by Possum Jenkins, The Worthless Son-In-Laws, Wurlitzer Prize, Soul Benefactor, Molly McGinn and more!!
We hope that this will be the first of many such events and we truly hope that y’all will consider joining our families for this special show.
Reservations are limited to 200 adults and are $35 per person. Children 12 and under admitted free with a paid adult. The event is BYOB.
To make your reservations, CLICK HERE or please make checks payable to Carolina Ramble, LLC, and mail them to: Carolina Ramble, 686 Church Road, Boone, NC 28607
CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!!
In order to pull this soiree off, we’re going to need a few helping hands to handle a variety of tasks including helping with children’s activities, parking cars, hauling gear and more. Volunteers will receive discounted tickets to the Ramble, along with a few hospitality perks.
Happy spring possum lovers,
If we could potentially divert your attention away from your NCAA bracket for two seconds, we’d like to let you knwo about our upcoming shows. That’s it…nice and easy. Put the bracket down. Keep reading…
This Saturday, March 29, Possum Jenkins will make a long awaited and highly anticipated return to South Carolina’s Low Country to join nine other bands for Spring Jam Music Fest 2!!! Taking place in Charleston’s Brittlebank Park, the event will kick off at noon and rock on until 9:30 p.m. Possum Jenkins will hit the festival’s Village Stage at 1:10 p.m sharp. Come join us for what is shaping up to be an awesome day in Chucktown.
On Saturday, April 12, Los Possums will be a little closer to home when we again head south to headline Lexington, NC’s High Rock Outfitters. HRO’s lethal combination of great sound, a friendly staff, stellar microbrews and wine, and an all around cozy vibe have quickly made it a favorite for both fans and band members alike. We’ll take the stage at 8:00 p.m.
And last but not least, we’ll be back in the Queen City on Friday, May 9, for an ALT. COUNTRY TRIPLE HEADER at the fabulous Visulite Theatre. Possum Jenkins will be sandwiched between a pair of Charlotte’s finest country-ish rock band–Pullman Strike and Amigo. This show is going to kick ass.

That’s about all the news that’s fit for consumption this week Possum lovers. We’ve still got plenty of snug-fitting black Possum t-shirts (American Apparel!), so give us a shout if you need/want one.

PS. Huge thanks to all who came out to our most recent Garage show. Y’all rocked our faces off and we tried our best to return the favor.
Happy 2014 Possum Lovers,
Yeah, yeah, yeah…we know the new year is almost two months old, but we’ve been more or less off the radar since last year. Fear not, however, as we’re heading into our 10th year with a full head of steam and a stellar slate of shows in some of our favorite spots throughout NC and beyond.
This month, your favorite bunch of Possums turns the big 1-0. I can confidently speak for everyone when I say nobody in the band thought we’d be around for ten shows, much less ten years!! Fortunately, we’re all still madly in love and we still enjoy playing music together and don’t see that changing any time soon. So break out the cake, candles and ice cream and let’s celebrate!! If you can’t find your lighter for the candles, Nate or Jared probably stole it.
Thanks so much to everyone who has allowed us to permanently damage your hearing while getting our ya-yas out on stage for all this time. We love and appreciate you. Hopefully you already knew that.
If you’ve made it this far, you might want to check out some videos of our recent acoustic performance at Our State Magazine headquarters in Greensboro. It’s kind of like the local version of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, which is awesome.
That’s about all we’ve got for you this time around y’all. Thanks again and we’ll see you at the shows!!
Nate “Diddy” Turner
Davo “This Old House” Willis
Jared “Frequent Flyer” Church
Brent “Back Pack Blower” Buckner
Dave “This new amp better not be another lemon!!!” Brewer
Hey you, quit bumping your gums and pass the damn gravy already!!
Just kidding. We here at Possum Central thought we’d get you warmed up for your big holiday meal by heckling you ever so gently. It’s only because we love you almost as much as we love gravy. And believe me, that’s a lot of love.
Not ones to break with family tradition, your favorite Possums will celebrate our Annual Thanksgiving Show this Wednesday, November 27th, by doing what we do best; eating too much before the show and searching the deepest, darkest depths of our van’s center console for anything resembling a roll of Tums. And then rocking out for two long sets.
We are however, not completely immune to change, as we’ll be exiting the Twin Cities and heading a short distance south to the very friendly confines of Lexington, NC’s own High Rock Outfitters. The show starts promptly at 9:00 p.m. The cover is $5 (we think).
Oh, and did we mention that this show is officially part of the 2nd Annual North Carolina Music & Arts Festival?!? Starting tomorrow (Tuesday) night with HRO’s weekly jam session and followed by us on Wednesday, the bulk of the festival will take place at Edward C. Smith Civic Center in Lexington. The awesome Carolina-centric lineup includes Acoustic Syndicate, Big Daddy Love, Mipso, The Deluge, Woody Wood, The Broadcast, Dark Water Rising, The Billy Sea, Jeff Sipe Trio, The Honeycutters, Overmountain Men, Jon Scales Fourchestra, Skinny Velvet and more.
For detailed festival ticket info, click HERE!
Wednesday’s show will be the last our last for 2013. We’ve had a great year of shows and met tons of wonderful folks. We can’t wait to see y’all again in 2014 when Possum Jenkins will celebrate our 10th birthday. In the event that you have actually read this far, click on this link to check out this awesome recording of our recent house show in Greensboro (yes, we did it again) by our buddy Dale Glenn.
See y’all at the show!

We’ve never done a show quite like our upcoming acoustic/electric affair at the HanesBrand Theatre. And, truth be told, we’re excited as hell about it!
But…we have a small confession to make.
After we finish the few remaining shows we have for 2013, Possum Jenkins is going to take an extended break from playing shows. It’s time for us to pull off the highway and hit the woodshed so we can work on making brand new original music, as well as perhaps delve a little more deeply into our own back catalog to put a fresh coat of paint on some older Possum favorites.
At this point, we do not have a definitive timetable for our return to the stage, but rest assured that we’ll be back in action in 2014, hopefully sounding better than ever and with a fistful of new tunes. Hell, we might even get a wild hair and record something while we’re at it.
Massive thanks to the entire Possum network of friends, fans and family that have supported us for nearly a decade. We love y’all more than words can tell and can’t wait to see you at the show.
Davo, Jared, B.B., Nate and Brewer

Carolinacana Photo Contest Rules:
We’ve done some ocassional trivia contests, but this time, you’re actually going to have to do the tiniest amount of work to participate. Simply snap a photo of your own custom version of THE ABOVE PHOTO–a rather hastily arranged version of the Possum logo featuring the outline of the Tar Heel State with a big PJ inside (you can also view it on our Facebook page). Make it as funny/weird/colorful/whatever as you want. The more creative, the better.
-One entry per household.
-No gross or lewd pictures (or generally anything you wouldn’t be comfortable sharing on the web).
-People related to members of PJ may not enter.
Simply email your contest entry to thepossumjenkinsband(at)yahoo(dot)com. We’ll pick a favorite from the entires and announce the results next week. Two runners-up will receive a Possum t-shirt and CD of their choice.
Deadline for entries is Sunday, September 15, at midnight.
A little background about the HanesBrand Theatre show…
A bunch of years ago, Possum Jenkins found its first roots in informal, late-night acoustic jams in front of a handful of friends. Shortly thereafter, we assembled a drum set, cranked up our amps and have more or less spent our almost 10 years together as very electric alt. country outfit, while typically only featuring acoustic tracks on our studio releases. While we’ve ocassionally been induced to perform sans amps (except for Jared), you could count the number of acoustic shows played by Possum on one hand.
Well, our very good friend Richard Emmett (formerly of The Garage) gave us a holler and asked us if we’d be interested in doing a show at one of Winton’s newest, coolest rooms and, by the way, could we make half of it acoustic? We thought that was a fine idea, so that’s the plan. We’ll start out with an acoustic first set, followed by an electric second set. We might even throw in some special guests for good measure.
Click HERE to watch Possum perform “Sally, Where’d You Get Your Liquor From?” acoustic during last fall’s Greensboro house show in Barry and Meredith Harrell’s living room.
So that’s pretty much it for this edition. Let’s see those photos!!

That’s about it for this Possum update. We’re stoked about our upcoming run of shows and hope you’ll join us. If it’s not too much trouble, you should bring some friends. Lots of them.
