Happy summer Possum fans!
Here at Possum Headquarters, we’re grabbing something cold to drink and yanking the chain on the ceiling fan to keep things nice and cool. We’re also cranking up the A/C in the van because, after a brief pause for the cause, we’re hitting the road!!
This Saturday, June 23, Possum Jenkins will cruise down I-85 bound for the Queen City, where we’ll return to the one and only Puckett’s Farm Equipment. Sponsored once again by our friend Chris at Red Dirt Promotions, Possum will hit the stage around 10:30 p.m. Opening band Cold Bait Live Beer will hit the stage at 9:00 p.m.
Next weekend, Possum Jenkins will deliver a High Country double header with back-to-back nights in Boone. On Friday, July 6, Los Possums will join our very good friends The Worthless Son-In-Laws for a lovely evening of free music at The Jones House in downtown Boone. Music starts at 5:00 p.m.
Following the Jones House show, the Son-In-Laws and most of the Possums will head to Boone Saloon for Dave Brewer’s 5th Annual Big Badass Birthday Benefit Bonanza. This show typically features lots of special guests, so come help us raise money for local High Country Charities while we get silly on stage.
On Saturday, July 7, Possum Jenkins will head back to the friendly confines of Boone Saloon to join forces with monster NYC-based band Izzy & The Catastrophics. Stitching together rock n’ roll, swing, surf, honky tonk and bebop, this band has shared the stage with everyone from the Reverend Horton Heat to Snoop Dogg. DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!!
On Saturday, July 14, Possum Jenkins will be back on stage in the Twin Cities as we return to Ziggy’s. Stay tuned for more details…
In other exciting news, Carolinacana has been getting spins at various radio stations around the country, including roots music powerhouse WNCW (Spindale/Asheville/Boone/Charlotte/Greenville, SC). Check out this amazing station or listen online at WNCW.org.
That’s about it y’all. Click over to our Tour Dates page for our full list of upcoming shows. Thanks, as always, for your undying support and we hope to see you at the shows!!
Just when we thought things couldn’t possibly get any more exciting here at Possum Central, we get another dose of thrilling news!! On Sunday, April 22, Possum’s own Dave Willis made an honest woman out of Allison Everhart by asking her to be his bride. Against her better judgement, she said YES!
Congratulations to Davo and Allison!!
Now, let’s get down to brass tacks. Possum Jenkins is in the midst of a heated race to see who will be crowned Best Band, Group or Duo in the Independent Country Music Association’s 2012 Fan Poll. After leading the balloting for several days, we’ve fallen behind by some 500 votes heading down the home stretch.
Folks, we need a win here. You can vote once a day every day from your computer, phone, or whatever web device you fancy. Please cast your votes daily and help spread the word and we just might pull this thing off. The voting ends one week from today, so don’t delay. Click HERE to vote now!!
Possum Jenkins is back in action this Saturday, April 28, when we team up once again with Knoxville, TN’s own Dirty Guv’nahs for a rowdy night of rawk ‘n country at The Garage in Winston-Salem. Show starts at 9:00 p.m. Possum will hit the stage at 10:30 p.m.
Give our calendar a look see for when we’ll be in your neck of the woods. New shows have been posted and there are more on the way, so check back often.
Thanks y’all. We’ll see you at the shows!!
Things are moving full speed ahead here at Possum Central. March was crazy busy and April seems to be shaping up much the same. We’ve got a handful of stellar shows beginning with this weekend’s jaunt to Columbia. More on that later.
Possum Jenkins has been called a lot of things over the years (and not all them were good), but award-winning isn’t one of them. Well, that might all be about to change!! On April 1, Possum Jenkins was nominated in the Best Country Band, Group or Duo for the 2012 Independent Country Music Association Awards. To be honest, we’re not quite sure how this happened. Nevertheless, the response has already been amazing and inspiring. If you haven’t already, we’d love for you to cast your vote for us. Simply click HERE! And tomorrow…you know…if you’re not busy, maybe you could vote again. Just sayin’…
Los Possums hit the road again this weekend for a loooooooooooooooong awaited return to Columbia, SC, where we’ll team up with our buddies Josh Roberts & The Hinges. Next weekend we’ll be back in the Twin Cities, opening for Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit (ex-Drive-By-Truckers) at Ziggy’s on Friday, April 13, followed by a return to the one and only Sadlack’s Heroes in Raleigh on Saturday, April 14. Spring has taken hold and the mighty Possum has risen from its winter hibernation and taken to the road. Things got underway last weekend with three great shows in Martinsville, VA, Greensboro and Winston-Salem respectively. We knocked the dust off, saw some old friends and generally had a blast.
We’ve got a pair of big shows beginning with tomorrow night’s Appalachian Voices benefit at the new Blind Tiger in Greensboro. In addition to raising money for a great cause, this will be the first chance to catch us on the same bill with The Wurlitzer Prize–a new project featuring our own Jared Church, Dave Willis and Brent Buckner alongside longtime cohort and Carolinacana contributor Molly McGinn (ex-Amelia’s Mechanics). Show starts at 10 p.m. and there is a $10 cover.
On Wednesday, March 28, Possum Jenkins will head to the Queen City where we’ll make our Visulite Theatre debut, opening for Knoxville’s Dirty Guv’nahs. The Visulite is one of Charlotte’s finest rooms and we’ve wanted to play there for some time. We’d love to see all of our Charlotte folks out there, even if it is a school night.
As you may have noticed, our good friend Jamie Carroll has given possumjenkinsband.com a serious spring cleaning. Click through the site if you get a second and peruse his handywork!

Hello gentle readers,
It’s hard to believe that a band that wasn’t supposed to last more than a month or two has now entered its eighth year. Ladies and gents, Possum Jenkins first took the stage on a snowy night at Murphy’s in Boone to play a spirited, rowdy, less-than-perfect show for our friends and to be honest, that’s exactly what we’re still doing.
Four albums, thousands of miles and more than 250 shows later, we’re going stronger than ever thanks to the love and support of our friends, fans and family. After a brief hiatus to allow the Turner family to settle in with young Levi Andrew, we’re dusting off our amps, running over a few tunes, gassing up the van and hitting the road. We’ve got a slew of shows coming down the line, so get your big red marker out and put us on your calendar!!
We’ve got several exciting things on the horizon, including opening for (former Drive-By-Trucker) Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit at Ziggy’s, our first ever show at Charlotte’s fabulous Visulite Theatre opening for Knoxville rockers The Dirty Guv’nahs and a long-awaited return to Columbia, SC. See our full list of upcoming shows below:
Friday, 3/16: Martinsville, VA @ The Rives Theater
Saturday, 3/17: Winston-Salem, NC @ The Old Winston Social Club
Saturday, 3/24: Greensboro, NC @ The Blind Tiger w/ Wurlitzer Prize (special mountaintop removal benefit show)
Wednesday, 3/28: Charlotte, NC @ The Visulite Theatre w/ The Dirty Guv’nahs
Friday, 4/6: Columbia, SC @ Five Points Pub w/ Josh Roberts & The Hinges
Friday, 4/13: Winston-Salem, NC @ Ziggy’s w/ Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit
Saturday, 4/14: Raleigh, NC @ Sadlack’s Heroes
Saturday, 4/28: Winston-Salem @ The Garage w/ The Dirty Guv’nahs
Although we haven’t been on the road, Carolinacana has been making its way out into the world. Family Reunion Country named it Album Of The Week, calling the record “a heaping helping of 14 tracks worth of Piedmont blues perfectly seasoned with traditional country, gospel, and even country-rock spiciness.” Read the review at http://familyreunioncountry.blogspot.com/2012/01/album-of-week-carolinacana-by-possum.html
In addition to glowing reviews, Carolinacana has been featured in several alt. country and Americana podcasts. Check our Facebook page for all the corresponding links. And in case you were wondering, the record is available for download via iTunes.
Alright y’all, I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but that’s all the time we have for today. See y’all at the shows!!
Happy holidays folks,
We here at Possum Central are thrilled to announce that Carolinacana, our fourth studio album, is finally here. Yes ladies and gents, Santa brought us 1,000 little shrink wrapped presents that we’re planning on re-gifting to all of you!!
This Friday, December 30th, Possum Jenkins will celebrate the release of Carolinacana with a special CD release show at The Garage in Winston-Salem. Joining us on the bill will be one of North Carolina’s finest musicians, singer-songwriter and super soul brother Greg Humphreys. In addition to his trio of stellar solo offerings, Humphreys also serves as frontman for alt. soul outfit Hobex and college rock favorites Dillon Fence.
The show will start at 9:30 with an opening set by Greg, followed by a long night of Possum tunes old and new. The cover is $8. Carolinacana will be for sale at the show for a special CD release show price. The new disc will be for sale via our website in the coming days, as well as other sites in the near future including CD Baby, iTunes and others.
Once again, we’d like to extend our utmost gratitude to our Kickstarter supporters who made the new record possible. Y’all went to bat for us when we needed you and we will be forever in your debt. We sincerely hope that we’ve done you proud with the new batch of songs. We will be mailing all of your rewards within the next week. Or, if you’re going to be at the CD release party, you can pick them up at The Garage.
(A quick aside about sharing music: We need you to share. We want you to share. We want you to burn a copy of our disc and give it to a friend, or email post some tracks online. Of course we’d like to sell some CDs, but spreading the Possum gospel is more important than freaking out over a few dollars. Help us get the word out by sharing.)
In other massively exciting news, Possum’s very own Nathan Turner and his wife Jennifer welcomed Levi Andrew Turner into the world a few weeks ago. We’re all extremely proud and excited for the Turner family, and can’t wait to get L.A. on stage with the band!!
Alright folks, that’s about all the news that’s fit to print. We can’t wait for you to hear Carolinacana. We’ll see you at the show.
The holidays are bearing down on us here at Possum Central. We’ve got two big shows on the horizon and the impending release of Carolinacana, not to mention the impending birth of Levi Andrew Turner. Needless to say, we are thrilled, excited, nervous…it’s a very emotional time.
Our very good friend Doug Williams at Electromagnetic Radiation Records is currently bound to his mixing board with a giant rubber band and will not be released until the new Possum record is mixed to perfection. When the soon-to-be sleep deprived Williams finishes tweaking our magnum opus, he’ll send it to Carrboro, where the tracks will be mastered at The Kitchen on Wednesday, November 30.
If we’re extremely luck, we’ll get the finished discs back just in time for our 12/30 show at The Garage. If we don’t, we’ll be very disappointed and a little embarrassed. (Crossing fingers and toes now…)
Speaking of shows, we’ve got a pair of hometown affairs coming up quick. After gorging yourself of Thanksgiving delights, join Possum at the new Ziggy’s for our annual post-Turkey Day show next Friday, November 25. Our friends Josh Roberts & The Hinges from Columbia, SC will open the show. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. For more information, click here.
On the aforementioned Friday, December 30, Possum Jenkins will return to the friendly confines of The Garage to wrap up an awesome 2011. We’re thrilled to have the one and only Greg Humphreys (Hobex, Dillon Fence) opening the show with a set of his original tunes. If the stars align, this will be our CD release party. If not, well…stay tuned. This will be our last show for a little while, as we give the Turner Family some time to get acquainted before hitting the road again.
And we have to shamelessly mention that if you happen to be working on your Christmas shopping and looking for a new Possum shirt, kookie, CD or sticker for that big PJ fan in the family, please click over to our web store at www.possumjenkinsband.com.
That’s it. That’s all the big news for now. Please help us spread the word about our last two shows of the year. We can’t wait to see y’all at the bar.
Things have been super crazy here at Possum Central all summer long and stretching into the fall. A lot of you have been asking about the new record and…well…it’s almost done. It’s been almost done for a while, but we’ve been burning up the road while our engineer and co-producer Doug “Get It Wet” Williams has been logging considerable studio time working on other projects. So yeah, it’s taking longer than expected, but we’re heading back into the studio in a couple of weeks to hopefully put this baby to bed.
By the way, we’re calling the new record Carolinacana.
Possum Jenkins would like to sincerely apologize to our very good friend and longtime supporter Dickson Dorrier for leading him to believe that last Friday’s show at Boone Saloon was the actual CD release party. It was, in fact, supposed to be just that. However, because of the aforementioned causes, there were no CD release festivities to be had. Dickson and some friends drove almost two hours to Boone and were a bit confused when we didn’t have a new CD. DOH!!
On a very serious and extremely somber note, Possum Jenkins’ sometimes sound man Cannon Taylor tragically passed away a few weeks ago, sending his family, many friends and the Possums into a state of shocked sadness. Taylor traveled with us quite a bit during the last year and a half, tweaking the knobs and making us sound better than ever. He was a talented musician and visual artist, as well as a dear friend and hilarious travel companion. We miss him so much. You can read Dave Brewer’s tribute to Taylor by copying and pasting this link: http://www.highcountrypress.com/columns/brewers_briefs/2011/09-22-11.htm.
Our hearts are heavy, but the shows must go on, and we’ve got plenty on the horizon. Check ‘em out:
