Happy holidays folks,
We here at Possum Central are thrilled to announce that Carolinacana, our fourth studio album, is finally here. Yes ladies and gents, Santa brought us 1,000 little shrink wrapped presents that we’re planning on re-gifting to all of you!!

This Friday, December 30th, Possum Jenkins will celebrate the release of Carolinacana with a special CD release show at The Garage in Winston-Salem. Joining us on the bill will be one of North Carolina’s finest musicians, singer-songwriter and super soul brother Greg Humphreys. In addition to his trio of stellar solo offerings, Humphreys also serves as frontman for alt. soul outfit Hobex and college rock favorites Dillon Fence.

The show will start at 9:30 with an opening set by Greg, followed by a long night of Possum tunes old and new. The cover is $8. Carolinacana will be for sale at the show for a special CD release show price. The new disc will be for sale via our website in the coming days, as well as other sites in the near future including CD Baby, iTunes and others.

Once again, we’d like to extend our utmost gratitude to our Kickstarter supporters who made the new record possible. Y’all went to bat for us when we needed you and we will be forever in your debt. We sincerely hope that we’ve done you proud with the new batch of songs. We will be mailing all of your rewards within the next week. Or, if you’re going to be at the CD release party, you can pick them up at The Garage.

(A quick aside about sharing music: We need you to share. We want you to share. We want you to burn a copy of our disc and give it to a friend, or email post some tracks online. Of course we’d like to sell some CDs, but spreading the Possum gospel is more important than freaking out over a few dollars. Help us get the word out by sharing.)

In other massively exciting news, Possum’s very own Nathan Turner and his wife Jennifer welcomed Levi Andrew Turner into the world a few weeks ago. We’re all extremely proud and excited for the Turner family, and can’t wait to get L.A. on stage with the band!!

Alright folks, that’s about all the news that’s fit to print. We can’t wait for you to hear Carolinacana. We’ll see you at the show.

Hey folks,
The holidays are bearing down on us here at Possum Central. We’ve got two big shows on the horizon and the impending release of Carolinacana, not to mention the impending birth of Levi Andrew Turner. Needless to say, we are thrilled, excited, nervous…it’s a very emotional time.

Our very good friend Doug Williams at Electromagnetic Radiation Records is currently bound to his mixing board with a giant rubber band and will not be released until the new Possum record is mixed to perfection. When the soon-to-be sleep deprived Williams finishes tweaking our magnum opus, he’ll send it to Carrboro, where the tracks will be mastered at The Kitchen on Wednesday, November 30.

If we’re extremely luck, we’ll get the finished discs back just in time for our 12/30 show at The Garage. If we don’t, we’ll be very disappointed and a little embarrassed. (Crossing fingers and toes now…)

Speaking of shows, we’ve got a pair of hometown affairs coming up quick. After gorging yourself of Thanksgiving delights, join Possum at the new Ziggy’s for our annual post-Turkey Day show next Friday, November 25. Our friends Josh Roberts & The Hinges from Columbia, SC will open the show. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. For more information, click here.

On the aforementioned Friday, December 30, Possum Jenkins will return to the friendly confines of The Garage to wrap up an awesome 2011. We’re thrilled to have the one and only Greg Humphreys (Hobex, Dillon Fence) opening the show with a set of his original tunes. If the stars align, this will be our CD release party. If not, well…stay tuned. This will be our last show for a little while, as we give the Turner Family some time to get acquainted before hitting the road again.

And we have to shamelessly mention that if you happen to be working on your Christmas shopping and looking for a new Possum shirt, kookie, CD or sticker for that big PJ fan in the family, please click over to our web store at www.possumjenkinsband.com.

That’s it. That’s all the big news for now. Please help us spread the word about our last two shows of the year. We can’t wait to see y’all at the bar.

Hey folks,

Things have been super crazy here at Possum Central all summer long and stretching into the fall. A lot of you have been asking about the new record and…well…it’s almost done. It’s been almost done for a while, but we’ve been burning up the road while our engineer and co-producer Doug “Get It Wet” Williams has been logging considerable studio time working on other projects. So yeah, it’s taking longer than expected, but we’re heading back into the studio in a couple of weeks to hopefully put this baby to bed.

By the way, we’re calling the new record Carolinacana.

Possum Jenkins would like to sincerely apologize to our very good friend and longtime supporter Dickson Dorrier for leading him to believe that last Friday’s show at Boone Saloon was the actual CD release party. It was, in fact, supposed to be just that. However, because of the aforementioned causes, there were no CD release festivities to be had. Dickson and some friends drove almost two hours to Boone and were a bit confused when we didn’t have a new CD. DOH!!

On a very serious and extremely somber note, Possum Jenkins’ sometimes sound man Cannon Taylor tragically passed away a few weeks ago, sending his family, many friends and the Possums into a state of shocked sadness. Taylor traveled with us quite a bit during the last year and a half, tweaking the knobs and making us sound better than ever. He was a talented musician and visual artist, as well as a dear friend and hilarious travel companion. We miss him so much. You can read Dave Brewer’s tribute to Taylor by copying and pasting this link: http://www.highcountrypress.com/columns/brewers_briefs/2011/09-22-11.htm.

Our hearts are heavy, but the shows must go on, and we’ve got plenty on the horizon. Check ‘em out:

10/8 High Country Music Fest, Boone (Possum plays at noon)
10/8 First Street Draught House Harvest Fest, Winston-Salem
10/15 Machiavelli’s, Bristol, TN
10/21 Deep South, Raleigh, NC
10/22 Backstreet Pub, Beaufort, NC
11/25 Ziggy’s, Winston-Salem, NC (with Josh Roberts & The Hinges)
12/30 The Garage, Winston-Salem, NC (with Greg Humphreys)

We’ve got new shirts, stickers and koozies!! Within the next few days, we’ll have them all for sale via the web store at PossumJenkinsBand.com.

That’s about it for this newsletter. Thanks for supporting Possum Jenkins. We couldn’t do it without you.

Nate “Craig’s List King” Turner
Brent “My Right Hand Man” Buckner
Davo “Moving on up to the East side” Willis
Jared “Trying out for the choir” Church

Howdy friends,
A belated happy holidays to you all. We hope you escaped your celebrations with nothing more severe than a hangover. We here at Possum Central are still finding unexploded Black Cats all over the yard. Rest assured we’re disposing of them properly (i.e. detonating them inside various inanimate objects in the yard).

Now that we’ve celebrated our nation’s independence by consuming massive quantities of American beer (alright, alright…there might have been the odd import in there), we’re ready to pack up the van and take this show back on the road. Between now and August, we’ll be playing shows all over North Carolina. We also have shows in South Carolina and Virginia, both at new venues that we’re super excited about.

Here’s a quick rundown of July’s happenings:

7/8 Greenville, NC @ The Tipsy Teapot w/ Holy Ghost Tent Revival
7/9 Kill Devil Hills, NC @ Goombay’s
7/10 Raleigh, NC @ Sadlack’s Heroes
7/15 Martinsville, VA @ The Rives Theater
7/16 Winston-Salem, NC @ The Old Winston Social Club
7/29 Sumter, SC @ The Chuckwagon
7/30 Charlotte, NC @ Puckett’s Farm Equipment w/ Cold Bait Live Beer

FYI, Red Dirt Promotions of Charlotte is giving away two free tickets to our show at Puckett’s Farm Equipment. Click to www.reddirtpromotions.com to learn more about this special offer. RDP also has a Facebook page.

August ins’t looking too shabby either:

8/12 Winston-Salem, NC @ Triad Taps Beer Fest
8/12 Winston-Salem, NC @ Summer On Trade
8/20 Private Event
8/26 Private Event
8/27 TBA (Kind of a big deal)

And if that weren’t enough excitement for one newsletter, we’d like to announce….drum roll please….

CD RELEASE SHOWS!!!!

Yes, that’s right. You heard it here first (unless you already heard about it somewhere else). Possum Jenkins will release their fourth studio album with a pair of shows:

9/30 Boone, NC @ Boone Saloon
10/1 Winston-Salem, NC @ The Garage

So yeah. We’re rolling up our sleeves, changing our strings, putting on clean underwear, gassing up the van and hitting the road to further spread the Possum gospel. We hope you’ll join us and we hope you’ll bring friends.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got to get back to working on that record.

Jared “Daddy Sang Bass” Church
Nate “Mama Sang Tenor” Turner
Brent “Me And Little Brother Would Join Right In There” Buckner
Davo “Singing Seemed To Help A Troubled Soul” Willis
Dave “In The Sky Lord, In The Sky” Brewer

The time has finally come for Possum Jenkins to kick off our Kickstarter campaign.

Starting today, April 18, we’re asking everyone-our friends, fans and family-to chip in a little a bit of your hard earned cash to help us make a new record next month.

We should point out that we’re not looking for a handout. For each donation you make to the campaign, you’ll receive a corresponding reward: from an advance copy of the CD to an exclusive invite to a CD release pre-party and lots more.

Folks, we’ve got 45 days to make this campaign a success. We sincerely hope you can help.

Howdy folks,
Dave Brewer here from Los Possums. My sincere apologies for being absent from our website for more than four months. We’ve been neglecting you and we apologize.

Now that we’ve got the requisite ass kissing out of the way, we’ve got all sorts of things to talk about.

First and foremost, a big thanks to The Shucks for having us down to Deep South Bar in Raleigh a few weeks back, the fine folks at Old Winston Social Club for an awesome St. Paddy’s show, and last but not least, to Brett, Bobby and the guys at The Windjammer for showing us a great time two nights in a row. Saturday night’s crowd was one of the best in ages. Thanks y’all. For reals.

As you might have heard, Possum is about to begin a Kickstarter campaign to help fund our next recording venture, slated to take place the last weekend of May at Electromagnetic Radiation Recorders in Winston-Salem. If you’re not familiar with Kickstarter, click over to their website and check them out.

From their website: Kickstarter is the largest funding platform for creative projects in the world. Every month, tens of thousands of amazing people pledge millions of dollars to projects from the worlds of music, film, art, technology, design, food, publishing and other creative fields.

So yeah, we’re asking you, our friends, fans and family to help us make an album by giving us a little cash. In return, we’ll offer you something as small as an advanced copy of the disc, or as big as a private performance at your house. Stay tuned for more details.

In the coming weeks, we’ve got shows lined up in Boone, Charlotte, Roanoke and lots more shows later this spring and summer. Y’all come and make some noise for us if you can.

Behold Jared at the bowling alley.
